A study on effect of equine facilitated therapy program on self-regulation in children with problem behavior

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide Equine Facilitated Therapy program to the children with problem behavior and identify its effects on their self-regulation. For this purpose, Equine Facilitated Therapy program was provided to 15 children in the experimental group who agreed to participate in Equine Facilitated Therapy program five times a week over two weeks, and there were 13 children in the control group who didn``t agree to participate. The collected data were processed by using SPSS 17 t-test, thus obtaining the following results: First, Equine Facilitated Therapy program exerted significant effects on self-regulation among those children in the experimental group. Second, behavior observation showed that the children in the experimental group made positive changes in hyper activity and withdrawal. To put the results together, Equine Facilitated Therapy program was effective in improving self-regulation for the children with problem behavior.
